Young women and girls face the worst impacts of climate change and yet they have been excluded from decision making spaces. Girls and young women especially in rural and magnalized communities are moving longer distances to access water in times of water scarcity, fetch firewood as a source of energy for cooking and lighting and have no access to control and manage natural resources which compromises on their productivity, access to education or even contribute to the economic activities of the community.
With lived experiences, we have realised and dealt with the inextricable links between the climate crisis, gender equality and sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR), increase in gender based violence as women can no longer provide for the families, high cases of rape and teenage pregnancy as adolescent girls have to move longer distances to access water, firewood and school. Structural and intersectional inequalities and discrimination make women and girls, in all their diversities, susceptible to the devastating and multi-dimensional impact of climate change.
Our Programs
GREEN MASTER PROGRAM
There is power in Education. Children and youth only need to be able to access knowledge on the environment to be able to build sustainable behaviours with in their schools and communities.
CLIMATE RESILIENCE HUBS
The local and indigenous knowledge that women and girls have about the environment are centered in finding solutions towards climate adaptation and mitigation.
CLIMATE LEADERSHIP PROGRAM
Girls and Young women are equipped with the skills and knowledge to drive action with in their communities and regions
