OUR CAMPAIGNS

TOA UCHAFU

CAMPAIGN

Girls and young women in Buikwe District have been fighting the mushrooming polluting local industries in their community which are releasing wastewater/effluents into the historical streams and worse still the River Nile, which is vital to the community’s well-being.

Girls for Climate Action started a campaign under the hashtag #ToaUchafu meaning “remove the dirt” to stop the pollution of the streams to ensure that young women and girls have access to clean and safe water.

Since March 10th, Girls For Climate Action has been actively engaging in the 69th Commission on the Status of Women (CSW69), fervently advocating for the demands outlined in our Beijing+30 Declaration for Action. As young women and girls from Uganda, we stand united in our commitment to integrate climate justice into gender equality frameworks. Our position underscores the need for gender-responsive climate financing that empowers grassroots women-led initiatives, access to climate education in STEM and agroecology, legal reforms for equal access to land and natural resources, and the creation of gender-transformative climate policies that protect vulnerable groups including climate refugees and environmental defenders.

We firmly believe that our futures are non-negotiable, and we urgently call upon governments, global leaders, and stakeholders to take immediate action towards a climate-resilient world where women and girls can thrive. By prioritizing the integration of climate resilience into health systems and ensuring access to gender-responsive healthcare during crises, we can foster a sustainable future for all. For a detailed overview of our demands, please refer to the attached document. Together, we will drive the change needed for a just and equitable future.
